FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
Answers to some of the most asked questions.
HOW LONG IS THE TAKING NEW GROUND CAMPAIGN?
Taking New Ground is a two-year giving campaign to raise $11 million for building updates and local compassion outreach.
WHY ARE COMMITMENTS NEEDED?
Similar to generosity campaigns in the past, the Taking New Ground campaign in focusing on several large-scale objectives.
To be financially wise stewards, we need to verify the availability of resources before we can begin. Your commitment to Taking New Ground is an important step of faith, but it also allows us to proceed with confidence on these God-sized ministry goals.
WHEN DO I NEED TO MAKE MY COMMITMENT?
You will be given a card on which you can indicate your commitment for giving. We're asking for everyone to bring their completed commitment cards to either service on March 23/24 or March 30/31.
Giving will officially begin on May 4/5. The accounting department will track your progress and provide you with regular updates.
WHAT IF MY FINANCIAL CIRCUMSTANCES CHANGE?
Change is a part of life, and we know that every family's finances can fluctuate on a yearly basis. You might experience a windfall and be able to give more for a season, or you might experience a job change be unable to give as much for a time.
If your situation changes, you can adjust your commitment by contacting our accounting team.
WHEN WILL WORK BEGIN?
Our church has always approached big goals "as resources allow." Most of the projects will take place in stages, and building projects will require the full availability of finances and approvals to begin.
At this point, we do not have an exact date. The next two years at Pleasant Valley are going to be an exciting season!
SHOULD I REDIRECT MY TITHE TO THE CAMPAIGN?
No. Our first priority is supporting PV and its current ministries with our tithes. Taking New Ground is a gift in addition to your tithe, and it will look different for each giver.
HOW MUCH WILL EACH PERSON BE EXPECTED TO GIVE?
The only expectation of this campaign is that each person/family asks God what they should give. While the amounts will obviously be different for everyone, our hope is that each person will take personal ownership in the project and be led to give generously, even sacrificially. Not equal gifts, but equal sacrifice.
ARE THERE ADVANTAGES TO GIVING APPRECIABLE ASSETS?
Gifts of appreciated assets – typically investment securities or real estate – can be very advantageous to both the giver and to the church.
A member of our accounting staff would be happy to give you more information and we recommend consulting with a qualified financial advisor.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE COMMUNITY GROUPS THAT MEET ON THE LOWER LEVEL?
For several years, we have been working toward the goal of making the entire lower level dedicated to kids and students. As we work through the remodel, we will work with each of the community groups to determine the best location for their group to meet.
WHAT WILL HAPPEN TO THE FIRST FLOOR KITCHEN SPACE?
We frequently host funeral dinners in the Well, which isn't a positive guest experience for families because it isn't convenient to the Chapel.
After working with ministry partners who serve in those areas, we have created a plan to relocate the kitchen from the Well to the West Wing. The project will be completed by this summer. (2019)
WILL THE SEATING CAPACITY IN THE WORSHIP CENTER CHANGE?
Smaller seating sections will provide more aisle seats which are where most people prefer to sit. Our average Sunday worship attendance is between 900-1000 in each service, and we currently have a 1500 seating capacity in the Worship Center.
We will need to remove 100 permanent seats, but we will be able to bring in temporary seating during large worship events like Easter and Christmas.
WILL THERE BE AN OUTSIDE PLAYGROUND?
The existing playground will be relocated to the west side of the building near an existing exterior door that will allow for easier access to our preschool.
We will also be adding a new indoor playground located near the new lower level commons and preschool space that will be a great place for families to gather and connect.
